He showed us a wide variety of shrubs and talked about the structure and colour they can bring to a garden, which is particularly useful in the winter months when flowers are scarce and gardens can look extremely bleak and forlorn. Rather than concentrating all our efforts on cultivating flowers, he suggested the addition of some well-chosen shrubs of different heights, shapes, textures and colours, could ensure that there would be something visually interesting in the garden all the year round.
He also showed us that small (or rigorously trimmed trees) and all sorts of shrubs, if closely planted, can make unusual and visually arresting hedges.
A really interesting talk which provided us with a lot of ideas and useful suggestions.
