We ended our lovely afternoon in the summer-house to chat about what we'd seen over a refreshing cup of tea or coffee and home-made cakes.

Last Thursday was our fourth visit to Alison's wonderful gardens and I think each time we've picked a different season. This time the colours were more autumnal but there were still lots of flowers in bloom. There is always so much to see here; some things that catch your eye immediately, and other smaller plants and flowers that you can miss if you don't look carefully, and I love the way you can suddenly come across little sculptures in the grass or hidden amongst the shrubs. Subs were due yesterday and I'm very happy to say that lots of members turned up for the meeting, as well as 3 new members and everyone paid their subs! Many thanks! It means we can continue to book some really good, interesting speakers for the next year.
The speaker yesterday was Frank Bayford and his subject was Norfolk. We've been waiting some time for this return visit by Frank as he had to cancel previous sessions due to sickness, but as always, he was certainly worth waiting for. Frank took us on a tour of some small North Norfolk villages with lots of his splendid photographs. He is very good at spotting anything unusual or quirky, and when he finds something out of the ordinary, he makes sure to investigate the story behind it, which makes for a fascinating journey. Not only do we get interesting views of Norfolk villages, architectural details and unusual artefacts, but also little nuggets of British and local history - some of it very strange indeed! So many thanks to Frank for a very entertaining afternoon! |
