We signed letters requesting that Sainsbury’s reduce their own and their suppliers’ use of plastics, and were joined by the vicar of St Paul’s Church, members of the Green, Labour and Conservative parties and Dinah Barry, Labour councillor for Winchmore Hill ward.
We met with Manager David Warlow (see photos below) who accepted our letters for forwarding to Mike Coupe, Sainsbury’s CEO. Sainsbury’s website refers to their ‘sustainability policies’, but Mr Warlow was asked if there was anything more immediate and visible they could do to show customers that they are going to respond to the worrying plastic problem. He said he would speak to those above him, and assured us there would be a response from Head Office.
Thanks to Jenny and Ros from Gardening Friends, who joined me there and hope to see more of you at our next event as the campaign continues!
