Our annual practical potting-up meeting last Thursday (13th) was very successful. We had over 30 members who each paid £1 to receive 12 plants, compost and also pots and disposable gloves, if required.
Last year the weather had been rather cold so the plants we got from Clock House were a little underdeveloped. This year was a great improvement - We've had a bit of sun and warmth recently, so there was a very good selection and all the plants were coming along nicely! We bought 432 in total, including Begonias, French Marigolds, Lobelia, Antirrhinums, Stocks and Petunias plus a very large bag of compost. Any surplus plants were bought by members. Update For anyone who wasn't at the April meeting: We had previously discussed moving our meetings to another hall, only because of problems with the acoustics when speakers are invited. However, having consulted with our members, looked at the alternatives and talked it over, we have decided we want to remain with the Highlands Village Hall. Our members find it very accessible, with good car-parking and two bus routes nearby. The management (as represented by Stan) are very accommodating and extremely tolerant with regard to all our various, often messy, activities! Also, and not unimportantly, at least half the members like to nip to Sainsburys for a bit of shopping after the meetings! |
