Please note, because the Village Hall where we meet will be used as a polling station for the General Election on June 8th, we will be meeting a week later,
on June 15th. Graham Dodd gave us a very interesting talk today about 'Alpines, Miniature Plants and Propagating' with lots of beautiful photos of a wide variety of plants he has planted and propagated. It was really interesting to hear that he was inspired at just seven years old, by accidentally coming across a garden designed by EA Bowles. His brother had taken him fishing and he'd got bored and wondered off. The sight of that garden so impressed him that the image remained with him and determined the course of his life. Members seemed to really enjoy Graham's talk and bought some of the alpines he'd brought with him, and I got the feeling that he will have inspired those of us who haven't already got a rockery with alpines, to think about creating one! And those that have one already, may decide to add something new and exotic to liven it up a bit! Some of the plants he brought are shown below. Graham actually showed us photos and also brought with him plants in really vibrant colours; vivid pinks, yellows and blues. but unfortunately only the white ones were around by the time I got to photographing them! |
