The Woodland Trust's latest project is Heartwood Forest near St Albans. It covers a large area which includes four areas of ancient woodland. Since acquiring Heartwood Forest the Trust has planted over 500,000 trees, with the help of local school children and other volunteers, and created wildflower meadows and an orchard. They are hoping that this whole area will become a wildlife haven.
The work of the Trust is mainly carried out by their 2000 volunteers and what they have achieved is really inspiring. I think many of our members would like to make a trip to see Heartwood Forest and hopefully, we'll be able to arrange one later in the year.
