Recently they told us they were trying to raise £10,000 over Christmas via their first "festive Bucket-a-thon across nearly 40 London venues". As one of these was our local M&S, I joined another volunteer and her son last Wednesday (14th December) to wave our collection buckets at the early evening shoppers. M&S shoppers were very generous with their donations and M&S treated us to hot chocolate and biscuits! As we finished our stint around 6.30pm, the Haven House Choir arrived to take over the collection with added entertainment (we hadn't been singing). Together, we and the choir raised a total of £239.72. We'll let you know what their final total is for all the London venues.
Some of you may know that we occasionally donate to Haven House Children's Hospice. Last Thursday (8th December) we had our Christmas Tea. Gerald was there very early and had covered two large tables with bright tablecloths and some festive decorations. (And here I have to say I am so cross with myself for forgetting to bring my camera!) These included little miniature trees in pots and a wonderful little steam engine which was all lit up and I think could actually play music too! As everyone arrived, the goodies they brought were arranged on these tables. Meanwhile we set up more tables covered with festive paper tablecloths for everyone to sit round, with each table having a lovely centre foliage display made by Joan and one lucky person from each table got to take this home. The winner on our table was Terry, so I'm very pleased to now have this on display at home - and here is a photo! Before our tea we played Musical Bingo, which had been so popular last year, with BIG prizes for the winners of each line (Twix bars!) and followed this up with a word quiz. By then we were all anxious to have a cup of tea or coffee and partake of all the goodies members had brought. So we all tucked in and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves! Many thanks to everyone who helped get the hall ready for the Christmas tea and then helped to clear everything away afterwards and thank you to all our members who contributed so generously to make it such an enjoyable tea! Merry Christmas, everyone - see you all in the New Year! |
